He is survived by: his wife Beverly; his children, Rebecca (Rick), Sarah (Joe) and Mark (Kim); and his grandchildren, Julia, Margaret, Fincher, Jonathan, Stephanie, Braden and Kalyn.

After his military service, he completed a residency in ophthalmology at UAB Callahan Eye Foundation Hospital.
