He was predeceased by: his parents, Lucy Poplin and Rufus Poplin; his son Jason Benjamin Poplin; and his brothers, Don, Bernard and Benjamin.

He is survived by: his wife Wanda Poplin; his children, Jennifer Mitchell and James Daniel Poplin (Shonna); his grandchildren, Emma (Samuel), Evan, Kayla, Kinsley, Presley and Luke; and his great grandchild Oakley.
