He was predeceased by: his parents, Ruben Samuel Johnston and Ruth Costella Ingram; his son Charles Johnston; and his brothers, Sam Johnston, Willis Johnston and Sidney Johnston.
He is survived by: his sons, Silvy Johnston Jr., Bruce Johnston (Susan) and Kelly Johnston of Virginia; his siblings, Mary Ware of Salem, AL, Faye Griffith of Union Grove, AL and Ruben Johnston (Linda) of Ohatchee; his niece Cheryl Williams (Ricky) of Ashland; his significant other William Johnston; and his friend Ricky Pinkston (Kathy). He is also survived by 12 grandchildren and a large extended family.
