She was predeceased by: her parents, Knox Colston and Nancy Littrell Colston; and her husband John Ronald Shannon. She is survived by: her daughters, Shana Dee Sutherland and Sheila Dean Smith Hawkins. She is also survived by one grandson and three great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers Gladys would have been moved with a thoughtful donation to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital to end childhood cancer.
