He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, John William Slaten and Nollie Hornsby Slaten; his wife Minnie Harden Lawrence; his brothers, Alvin "Bud" Slaten and Alton Samuel Slaten; his niece Shirley Daniels; his siblings, Ola Slaten, Marie Brown (Erskin), Amoline Fox (Peter), Averoine Ortiz, Fayrene Dewberry (Troy) and Uless Slaten; his nephew Billy Gene Slaten; and his niece Mary Sue Smith (Roy Adams).
A graveside service was held on Monday, January 13th 2025 at 1:00 PM at the Gilliam Springs Cemetery (1351 N Brindlee Mountain Pkwy, Arab, AL 35016).
