He was predeceased by: his parents, William Charles Tompkins and Willie Ruth Reynolds Tompkins; and his brother Bryce Tompkins. He is survived by: his wife Mary Jane Spruiel Tompkins; his children, Eric Tompkins, Lynn Tompkins and LeAnn Tompkins Light (Jammey); his grandchildren, Lauren Light and Laney Light; and his brother Rodney Tompkins (Jan).

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Shepherd's Cove Hospice.
