He is survived by: his sons, David Michael Smith (George Grant Smith) and George; his wife Rose Carolyn Askew Smith; his son Grant; his grandchildren, David Auston Smith, Everett Carruthers Smith and Virginia Gilder Smith; his brother Stephen Campbell Smith of Birmingham; his sister-in-law Margaret Jewell Askew Collins of Douglasville; his extended family, Jacqueline Slattery Simpson of Clearwater and James Slattery of North Carolina; and also, Mark Smith (Julie) of Birmingham and Hon.
Due to Covid concerns, no visitation or memorial services have been planned.
In lieu of flowers, friends of the family are encouraged to considered gifts to First United Methodist Church of Anniston, The Greater Alabama Council of the Boy Scouts of America, and Birmingham Southern College or to other worthy recipients of charitable support.
