He was predeceased by: his parents, Freeman Carswell and Minnie Carswell; his wife Judy Mae Carswell; his siblings, Alberta Brown, Ruby Parks, Nellie M. Jones, Norman Thomas and Fieldman Carswell; and his grandfather Heck Thomas.

He is survived by: his nieces, Minnie Scott and Roberta Taylor; and his caregiver Jerry Roberts (Cassandra). He is also survived by other relatives and friends.
