He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert Earl Thornton and Inez Moncrief Thomas; and his brothers, Billy Wayne Thornton and Kenneth Thornton. He is survived by: his wife Minnie I. Thornton of Alexander City; his children, John Leroy Thornton (April) of Alexander City, Sharon Moore (Ed) of Jacksonville, Jimmy D. Thornton of Alexander City, Angela D. Lumpkin (Ricky), Timothy W. Thornton (Kim) of Alexander City and William M. Thornton (Brianna) of Alexander City; and his siblings, Sarah Thornton of Alexander City, James Thornton (Emma) of Alexander City, Willard Thornton of Coosa County and Braxton Thornton of Alexander City. He is also survived by seventeen grandchildren; eight great grandchildren.
