He was predeceased by: his parents, Hurshel Yates and Irene Harris Yates; his wife Rebecca Yates; his daughter Shawn Yates; his grandchildren, Seth Howard, Kennedy Howard and Aiden Howard; and his siblings, Melba Cotney and Sammy Yates.
He is survived by: his children, DeWana Y. Howard (Jeff) of Decatur and Terry Yates, Jr. of Alexander City; his grandchildren, Logan Howard of Decatur, Riley Howard (Allison) of Decatur and Warren Gilmore of Alexander City; and his great grandchildren, Holland of Decatur and Harrison Howard of Decatur.
