He was predeceased by: his parents, Dr. Marcus Whitman Sr. and Mary Lynn Judd Whitman. He is survived by: his friend Barbara Whitman; his children, Laura Whitman Sims (Bernie), Sharon Whitman Johnston (JJ), Marcus Whitman III (Paige), Dan Whitman (Lisa) and Harper Whitman (Kelly); and his grandchildren, Whitney Sims Cummins (Nick), Stephanie Sims Bailey (Adam), Kristen Phillips, Kevin Phillips (Jessica), Kathryn Whitman Matheny (Joel), Erin Whitman, Cole Whitman (Trista), Mason Whitman (Becca) and Morgan Whitman. He is also survived by five great grandchildren.
After working through the pandemic, he finally retired in 2021.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation to support Marcus's great-granddaughter, Addison, in her fight against Cystic Fibrosis.
