He was predeceased by: his parents, Eunice Armstrong Burford and Earl Mitchell Burford; his sisters, Alma Annette Burford Roddy (Talmadge) and Alva Marie Burford Higginbotham (Earl); and his daughter-in-law Tracey Odom Burford.

He is survived by: his wife Sandra Janee Killough Burford; his son Mitchell David Burford, Jr. (Cathy); his brother James Earl Burford (Sharron); his grandsons, Zachary Michael Burford (Kat), Chase and Seth Varden; and his great grandchildren, Jaxson Daniel Burford, Aiden and Roman Varden. He is also survived by nephews, nieces and cousins.
