He is survived by: his wife Felicia Strickland Hix Hilyer; his children, Elizabeth Hilyer of Vacaville, CA, Joe Hilyer, Jr., Sam Hilyer (Natalie), Ronnie Hix of Chicago and Anthony Hix (Melissa); his brother-in-law Charles Owens of Dothan; and his grandchildren, Stephanie Grant (Jason), Grant Hilyer, Baylie Hilyer, Samantha Hilyer, Joseph Hilyer, III, Kyle Hilyer, Logan Hilyer, Garrett Hilyer, Katie Rollins (Richard), Rachel Hix and Bekah Hix.
