He was predeceased by: his parents, Shield Sr. Downey and Gladys Downey Sr.; his sisters, Angeline Geffe and Lulu Nelson; and his grandchildren, Ezekiel Downey-Dockery and Vivian Downey.
He is survived by: his wife Emily Downey; his children, Tennille Downey, Sheila (Jason Hill), Shield Thomas Downey and Henry Downey; his stepchildren, Robert Reimer Sr., Holly Reimer, Anthony Reimer, Jason Douglas, April Douglas and Geraldine Jones; his siblings, Jack (Nita Commack), Rosa (Henry Horner), Frank (Polly Downey) and Ameila Woods; and his son Kevin Cleveland. He is also survived by her children; his eighteen grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and many cousins, nieces, nephews.
