Stan Lee Obituary

Sadly, on the morning of November 12, 2018, Stanley Martin Lieber, known to the world as the Creator of the Marvel Universe under the name Stan Lee passed away. An ambulance was called to his home in Hollywood Hills to transport him to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center where he later passed away at the age of 95.

Stan Lee created or co-created many of the superheros in the Marvel Universe, including: Black Panther, The Hulk, Spider-Man, Thor, Iron Man, Deadpool, and The X-Men.

He is an example of where hard work and creativity can take you. Stan Lee started working while still in high school, taking jobs as an office assistant. It was during this time, he chose to go by the name Stan Lee and keep the use of his real name, Stanley Lieber, for more serious written work. He took an editorial assistant job for Timely Comics, which later became Marvel. In the early 40s, he became an editor and by the 1970s he was a publisher. Stan Lee created his first character, "The Destroyer", who appeared in Mystic Comics #6 (August 1941).

Stan Lee joined the U.S. army during WW2 (1942-1945), and when he returned Marvel was having trouble keeping up with DC Comics. This is the time when Stan Lee let his creativity run wild and together with a team of collaborators, created The Fantastic Four, which became an instant hit. This creation lead to today's more famous characters known together as The X-Men and The Avengers.

Marvel movies are annual blockbusters and since 1989, Stan Lee, has had his fair share of cameos, appearing in nearly every movie. It shouldn't go unnoticed that Stan Lee also appeared in many Marvel TV shows, as well as, conducted many voice overs for animated films and tv shows.

Stan Lee was pre-deceased by his wife of 69 years, Joan, and his daughter Jan, who passed away less than one week after birth in 1953. He is survived by his daughter, J.C. Lee.

Stan Lee will surely live on through the Marvel Universe and his many imaginative creations as his characters will continue to be admired by many generations to come. Visitors are invited to light a candle and leave a message of condolence for the MARVEL-ous Stan Lee.
