Roger Moore Obituary
Roger Moore (October 14, 1927 - May 23, 2017) was a British actor, famous for his role as agent 007 in the James Bond film series.Roger Moore showed an early interest in the arts. He studied two years at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art before being recruited at the age of 18 in the British Armed Forces shortly after the end of the Second World War. After his military service, Roger Moore resumed his career as an actor and model. After playing minor roles in a few movies, Moore received starring roles in television series such as 'Ivanhoe' (1958-1959), 'The Alaskans' (1959-1960) and 'Maverick' (1960-1961).
In 1962, he finally made his breakthrough by playing Simon Templar, a thief who only steals criminals, in 'The Saint' (1962-1969). James Bond producers first approached Moore to play the world's most famous spy in the late 1960s, after Sean Connery announced he was withdrawing from the role. Unfortunately, due to his commitments to television series, Moore could not accept the role until 'Live and Let Die' in 1973.Roger Moore's James Bond was lighter, softer and more brilliant than Connery's original.
This recipe has been crowned with success for seven films over a 12-year period, including 'The Spy Who Loved Me' (1977) and 'Moonraker' (1979) who led the Box Office. However, at the exit of 'A View to a Kill' in 1985, Moore was 58 years old and felt that he was too old to embody a realistic action hero. After his years playing James Bond, Moore continued to make appearances in some movies, often joking about his James Bond character. He was also a remarkable talk show guest, entertaining the audience with his humor and self-derision.In 1991, he became a goodwill ambassador for UNICEF and lent his celebrity status to some animal protection campaigns.
He was appointed as Commander of the Order of the British Empire in 2003 in recognition for his charity work.Roger Moore died on May 23, 2017 after a battle against cancer.
