Chris Cornell Obituary
Chris Cornell was born on July 20, 1964 in Seattle. In the mid-1980s, he formed the Soundgarden group and in 1999 he began a solo career which was highly criticized. The following year, he formed Audioslave with members of Rage Against the Machine.
He left Audioslave in 2007 and attempted a second solo effort.Chris Cornell grew up in an Irish Catholic family of 6 children. After the divorce of his parents, Chris began to use drugs and to steal. During this period that he learned to play music (drum).
At the age of 15, Chris has depressed episodes. He left school to play music and help support his family.In the mid-80s, Cornell formed Soundgarden with Kim Thayil, Matt Cameron and Hiro Yamamoto, who was later replaced by Ben Shepherd. Soundgarden quickly became one of the most popular bands of the 1990s and a precursor of the sound that will later be named ’The Seattle Grunge.’Soungarden group split in 1997, and met later, in 2010, for a show at the Showbox Theater in Seattle.
The band continued to perform in North America in 2011 and a year later released a new single ’Live to Rise’, which appeared on the soundtrack of ’The Avengers’ movie. In 2012, Soundgarden released King Animal, his sixth studio album.Depressed for several years, suffering from social phobias and addiction to drugs and alcohol, Cornell followed checked to rehab in 2000 and remain sober until his death.Chris Cornell was married to Susan Silver, manager of the groups Soundgarden and Alice in Chains with whom he had a daughter in 2000. The couple divorced and Chris then married the publicist Vicky Karayiannis in 2003.
Together, they had two childrens.Cornell died on May 17, 2017 in Detroit during a tour with his band Soundgarden.
