He was predeceased by: his parents, Jim Matthews and Louise Matthews (Showler); his children, Carmen and Kona; his siblings, Bessie Baskerville (Bill), Wes Matthews (Celia Dales), Norma Smith (Lou), Mabel Stilborn (Jack), Eric Matthews and Marjorie Colliver (Maurice Gibson); and his siblings-in-law, Doris, Vic Kraigsley, Edwin, Esther Dales, Stewart Wurts, Hector Loveridge, Connie, Miles Standish, Robert, Doreen Dales and Lew Dales.
He is survived by: his wife Florence Matthews; his children, Colleen Matthews and Mark Matthews (Gaylene); his grandchildren, Robin Matthews-Kanhai (Lincoln Penner), Chelle Van Dyke (Kelsey), Keir Matthews-Hunter (Mana Masoudi), Bryce Matthews (Mike Sabatino), Nolan Matthews (Richelle), Becca Matthews and Kellan Matthews; his great grandchildren, Osric, August, Zephryn Penner-Kanhai, Frances Van Dyke, Flynn and Soren Matthews; his sisters-in-law, Janet Loveridge and Joan Dales; and also Lily McKay-Carriere. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service was held on Friday, November 15th 2024 at 2:00 PM at the First United Church (148 5th Ave E, Melville, SK S0A2P0). A burial was held on Friday, November 15th 2024 at the Melville City Cemetery. In early 2023, Gordon's stay there was cut short when he contracted Covid pneumonia.
