He was predeceased by: his parents, Nels Flaten and Svea Flaten; his brother Glenn Flaten; and his siblings-in-law, Herb Warden, Fred Wilson and Vie Flaten.
He is survived by: his wife Doris Flaten; his sons, Gary Flaten (Mary Ann, family: Hailey, Katie) and Ray Flaten (Wanda Pleckham); his grandchild Charlie Pleckham; his daughter Teresa Truscott (Trent); his grandson Spencer; his siblings, Norm Flaten, Audrey Wilson and Bev Hansen (Don); and his sister-in-law Shirley Flaten. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
