He was predeceased by: his parents, Harry Sopyc and Annie Gawuik; his brother Bill Sopyc; his parents-in-law, Peter Kirchgesner and Margaret Kirchgesner; his brother-in-law Tony Kirchgesner; his niece Maureen Chabassol; and his son-in-law John Mason.

He is survived by: his wife Doreen; his sons, Gary Sopyc and Ken Sopyc (Denise); his grandchildren, Jared Leslie and Dallis Barry (Kevin); his daughter Glenda Mason (John); his grandchildren, Bobbie Haines (Mike) and Courtney Mundt (Lee); his child Shelley Russett (Dennis); his grandchildren, Stephanie Mogotsi (Tumelo) and Evan Russett; his son Allan Sopyc (Darlene); and his grandchildren, Niki Lewis (Trent) and Travis Sopyc (Vanessa). He is also survived by 15 great-grandchildren.
