She was predeceased by: her parents, Herbert Maess and Eva Maess; and her siblings, Gordon Maess, Bud Maess and Sylvia Meadows.

She is survived by: her husband Keith Simkins; her children, Shelly Simkins and Glen Simkins (Dawn); her grandchildren, Danielle Wilson, Chasity Palmer (Christopher), Brandt Pilling, Aaron Pilling (Annie Laing), Lindsay Jackson (Jesse) and Cameron Simkins (Kayla); and her great grandchildren, Brooke, Duncan, Michael, Kiera, Caeli, Liam, Brinn, Zeke, Seth, Annabelle, Lacey, Paige, Aubrie, Emery and Caleb. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Donations in memory of Doreen may be made to Turtleford Riverside Health Complex or Alzheimer's Society.
