He was predeceased by: his wife Katie; his parents, John Heppner and Maria Heppner; his parents-in-law, John and Katherine Grunau; his siblings, Ella Heppner, Peter (Erma), John (Ruth) and Ruben (Norma); and his brothers-in-law, Ernie Smith and Henry Klassen.

He is survived by: his sister Leona Smith; and his sister-in-law Erna Klassen. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
