He was predeceased by: his wife Shirley Sommerfeld; his parents, Emma Sommerfeld and Ludwig Sommerfeld; his siblings, Max Benke (Waltrout), Edwin Sommerfeld (Rita), Irma Sommerfeld (Otto), Irene Steinhilber (Martin), Brunhilda and Linda; and his parents-in-law, Arnold Stene and Agnes Stene.
He is survived by: his children, Debbie Bergen (Larry), Ashley Doell (Shane), Easton, Everly, Brooks Kendel, Jackie Sommerfeld (Dean Grimsrud), Tammy Soderberg (Kyle) and Drew Soderberg; and his brother Alfred Sommerfeld (Maureen).
