He was predeceased by: his wife Helen (Zelionka); his grandson Cole Eilers; his parents, Gordon Matthewson and Elizabeth Matthewson (Parker); his siblings, Lawrence Matthewson, Donald Matthewson (Rita), Eddie Matthewson and Harvey Matthewson; his parents-in-law, Stanley and Katie Zelionka; and his brothers-in-law, George Smyth and Eddie Zelionka.

He is survived by: his son Gordie Matthewson; his grandchildren, Kyndal, Shayla (Rory), Austin and Makayla; his daughter Cathy Gaudet (Alain); his grandchildren, Craig (Kayleen), Shanlee (Carson) and Brady (Brit); his daughter Dawn Eilers (Jeff); his granddaughter Katie; his great grandchildren, Drayden, Zeppelin, Halo Yates, Holly Matthewson, Brooks, Jake and Mya Gaudet; his siblings, Bill Matthewson, Carmen Matthewson (Donna), Lorraine Smyth and Helen Garnier (Lucien); and his sisters-in-law, Georgie Matthewson, Eleanore Matthewson, Margaret Zelionka, Jeannette Zelionka and Jeanne Yeik (Don).
