Michael Leo Devreese Obituary

On Friday, April 7, 2017, Michael DeVreese passed away peacefully at the age of 88 with family by his side. Michael was predeceased by his parents, Cyriel and Julienne DeVreese; wife, Madeleine DeVreese; three brothers, Florent, Prudent and Florimond DeVreese; one brother in infancy and sisters in law, Madeleine and Felicia DeVreese.

Michael was born to Cyriel and Julienne DeVreese on November 29, 1928 on the NE 16-4-19 W 2nd in the RM of the Gap. At a very young age, Michael started farming alongside his father and three older brothers. As he grew up, Michael continued to farm like his father before him.On June 3, 1958, Michael married Madeleine Cherpin (deceased 1998).

The two of them lived and farmed in the Ceylon and Radville area, where their three children remain today. During his farming career, Michael also served as RM Counsellor in the RM of Laurier from 1977-1981. All his life, Michael was both a grain and cattle farmer. However, he particularly liked the cattle side of farming.

Even after retirement, Michael enjoyed driving out to the farm, now belonging to his two sons, to check on the calves. In addition to his frequent drives to the farm, Michael also enjoyed spending his time playing cards with his grandchildren and partaking in smear tournaments with his friends. He also loved to watch his grandchildren play sports, especially basketball and hockey.

He would even show up early to watch his grandsons warm up on the ice and give them a pre-game wave from the stands.Michael was a kind, hardworking man with a great sense of humour who will surely be missed by all those who had the pleasure of meeting him. Michael is survived by his son, Robert DeVreese (Margaret Bloch) of Radville, SK; son, Allan (Donna) DeVreese of Radville, SK and their family, Lacey DeVreese (Brian Innes), Kayla DeVreese (Chris Pastor) and Stephanie DeVreese (Joseph Woitas); daughter, Elaine (Andy) Henning of Radville, SK and family, Adam (Kendal) Calibaba and their daughter, Everleigh, Eric (Charissa) Calibaba and Sara Calibaba (Gabriel Lafrance-Robineau); sisters in law, Rosa Cancade and Jeanne Cherpin; brother in law, Armand Cherpin as well as nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
