He was predeceased by: his parents, John Rockthunder Sr. and Mary Louise Rockthunder; his siblings, Charles Rockthunder, Percy Rockthunder, Grace Okemow, Alice Berger, Irene Kaisowatum and Isabelle Assoon; and his daughter Brenda Anaskan.

He is survived by: his spouse Modesta Rockthunder; his children, Gina Anaskan, Barbie Jo Kosar (Anaskan), Jason Anaskan, Telly Anaskan, Phadrea Lynn Anaskan, Val Marie Anaskan, Jenelle Taypotat (Jeff), Rhea Rockthunder, Sylvia Rockthunder, Fred Rockthunder and Laurissa Cote; his sisters, Margaret Rockthunder, Barbara Borkowski and Marie Smith (Bruce); and his great grandchildren, Bugler and Blacksioux. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
