He was predeceased by: his parents, Albert Schmit and Frances Schmit; his wife Inez Schmit; and his siblings, Bob, Bill, Jim, Joe and Doris Schmit.
He is survived by: his children, Todd Schmit, Jodi Rutley (Neil), Lorne Schmit (Maria) and Stephanie Rutley (Lorne); his grandchildren, Danna Harker (Ryan), Baillie Cowden (Andy), Keegan Schmit, Kayla Schmit, Matthew Schmit and Christopher Schmit; and his great grandchildren, Daymon, Sophie, Everest and Wilder. He is also survived by numerous in-laws, nieces and nephews.
