He was predeceased by: his wife Cheryl; his parents, Martha MacAskill and Frederick MacAskill; his brother Ran MacAskill; and his brother-in-law Robert Byrne.

He is survived by: his son Jonathan MacAskill (Tanya); his grandchildren, Taylor, Corrina, Sarah, Jessica, Sydney, Jordyn and Skylynn; his sisters, Heather and Judy (Don); and his sister-in-law Elaine MacAskill. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
