He was predeceased by: his parents, Joe Kirby and Ceceilia Kirby; and his brothers, Frank, Herbie, Ronnie and Norman.

He is survived by: his wife Cynthia Kirby; his sons, Sam Jr. and Dwayne (Melanie); his grandson Cole Whenisera (Arlene Jacobs); his siblings, Barbara (Harvey Hartwell), Jackie (late Vern Huff), Freddy (Debbie Drouin), Danny (late Arlene Phillips), Carole (late Thomas Kennedy), Darlene (late Bob Janetschek) and Lorna; and his in-laws, Palma (late Louie Jacco), Franklyn (Bonnie Jacobs), Louis, Charlene (Randolph Loft) and Darryl. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.
