He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert and Caroline (Dempsey); his siblings, Robert, Cyril, Harold (Chesty) and Ann; his son-in-law Jim Whelan; his wife Marianne (Edey); and his father-in-law Bruce (Olive Edey).

He is survived by: his daughter Robin Whelan-Desjardins (Pierre); his granddaughter Kelsey Whelan Bouwmeester (Corey); his brother Jude (Lorraine); and his siblings-in-law, Marilynne Clowater and Robert Edey (Valerie).

Donations in Carly's name can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Maison de l'Envol, Palliative Care Home in Rouyn-Noranda.
