He was predeceased by: his parents, Albert Savoie and Dorothy Savoie; his brother Gerald; and his brothers-in-law, Wilfred Hache and Wayne MacDonald.

He is survived by: his children, Angela Flynn (Jason) and Elisha Savoie (Adam Lidstone); his grandchildren, Tyler, Devin, Haley, Colby and Matthew; his siblings, Noela Lavigne (Bert), Sunny, Vince, Maryanne Gallant (Bobby), Sylvia Perry (Jimmy), Norman (Leona), Lucille Hache, Alice MacDonald, Linda Gallant (Lloyd), Bobby (Pauline) and Joanne Duguay (Mario); and his sister-in-law Linda Savoie. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Donations in memory of Melvin can be made to the Souris Hospital, or the St. Mary's cemetery fund.
