He is survived by: his wife Annie Lee (Fyfe); his children, Duane (Sara), Karen MacKay (Fraser), Canda (Jason) and MacNeill; his grandchildren, Colin, Keir MacKay (Rylie), Skye, Shamus MacNeill and Angus MacDonald; his great grandchildren, Blythe and Asa MacKay; his brother Earle (JoAnn); and his siblings-in-law, Beryl Fyfe, Mary Moase (Francis) and Donald (Jeannie). He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

“We knew it was coming but like so many others I'm deeply saddened that we've lost Elmer. He was an extraordinary farmer who went through well earned success and unfair hardship at times. He was also a much needed leader and voice for the potato industry throughout his career here on the Island, but nationally and internationally as well. I am so upset that I won't be able to talk to him again. My sympathies to all his loved ones. Ian Petrie”
