He was predeceased by: his parents, Harry Ferne and Lucy Ferne (Sellar); and his siblings, Morley (Pearl), Merle (Jimmy Cole), Theo, Virgene (Brent Cole), Rose (Elton Murphy), Doris (Warren Dorscht) and Boyd.

He is survived by: his wife Mary (Davidson); his daughters, Sandra Laughlin, Barbara MacEachern (David), Deborah Crozier (Andrew Dye) and Donna Provoost (Rob); his grandchildren, Jennifer, Sarah, Justin and Evan; his great grandchild Kyra; and his sisters-in-law, Kaye Crozier and Donna Davidson. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins.
