He was predeceased by: his wife Velma Wright; his daughter Deborah Canham; and his brother-in-law Jack Chambers. He is survived by: his children, Valena Wright, Carol Sellar (Randy) and Shirley Wright (Bryon Howard); his children-in-law, Bill Canham and Grampie George; his grandchildren, Andrew Canham of Edmonton, Amanda Canham of Ottawa, Natalie, Adrianna, Ivan Soto-Wright of Boston, Josh, Tyler, Matt Sellar of Charlottetown, Robin and Jacob Howard of Victoria, BC; his great grandchildren, Emily, Amelia, Annabelle, Arthur, Paige, Logan, Olivia, Tommy and Claire; and his sister Helen Chambers.

Recipient of the Queens Jubilee Gold and Diamond medals, recognizing his contributions to public life.
