He was predeceased by: his parents, Wilhelm Duttmann and Thekla Duttmann (Bruns); and his sister Maria. He is survived by: his wife Anna Duttmann (Gerdes); his children, Gary Klaassen, William, Gay Duttmann, Tom, Angela Duttmann, Rosemary, Ivan Bedard, Julia and Peter Reid; his grandchildren, Richard, Mark, Michael, Anita, Elisabeth, Cheryl, Corinne, Ashley, Anders, Adam, Annamarie, Lance, Stacy, Trevor, Shane and Maxwell; his children, Journey, Daniel, Sylvia, Jace, Everett, Kenzie, Stevie, Cash, Indy, Brooks, Beau and Raelynn; and his siblings, Wilhelm, Anton, Christa and Marlies.
