He was predeceased by: his parents, Silva Andrade Tavares and João "John" Tavares. He is survived by: his wife Deolinda Paiva Tavares; his children, Aaron Tavares and Buffy Tavares-Ellis (Dennis); his grandchild Eric Ellis; his sibling Maria Mederios (Gabriel); and his siblings-in-law, Matilda Petrie (Jack), Venilia Jaoquim and Hediuno Paiva (Evangelina).
