He was predeceased by: his siblings, Erna, Martha, Bertha, Arnold, Olga, Therese and Irma.

He is survived by: his wife Irma; his children, Eric (Jenny), Peter (Valerie), Ed (Audrey) and Elaine; his grandchildren, Megan (Sean), Jennifer (Leon), Scott, Tim (Lorraine), Tessa (David), Andrew (Peggy), Zach, Kathryn and Alexa; his great grandchildren, William, Maggie, Ella and Claire; and his siblings, Wilhelm, Lydia and Frieda. He is also survived by his many nieces, nephews.
