He was predeceased by: his parents, John Thompson and Dorothy Thompson (Garniss); and his siblings, Jim, Donnie, John Thompson (Margaret) and Kathleen McLennan (Scott).

He is survived by: his children, Joe Thompson of Burlington, Rob and Marcia Thompson of Elmira; his grandchildren, Samantha and Cole; his significant other Janette Martin; his significant other's children, Stacey, Jody and Kelly; his siblings, Bill, Shirley Thompson and Sharon Stackhouse; and his sister-in-law Dorothy Thompson.
