He was predeceased by: his father Raymond Burke; and his father-in-law Richard. He is survived by: his wife Winifred (Murchland); his children, Peter, Brigid, Charles and Joseph; his mother Jeannette Burke (Byerley); his siblings, Michael (Julie), Patti (Brad Martin), Tim (Shelly) and Sean Burke; his siblings-in-law, Eileen Murchland, Mary, Stephen Balsam, Henry, Jackie Murchland, Emmett, Carol Murchland, Byerley, Laforet and Murphy; and his mother-in-law Mary.

“Brian was the first person I met at the Wellesley Hospital in 1989 when I moved to Toronto. He was my Chief Resident but became much more than that over the years. We first bonded over our love of baseball but then over so many other things. He was as welcoming, knowledgeable, funny and kind as anyone I have ever known.
