He was predeceased by: his wife Joan P. MacDonald; his brothers, Francis "Bud", Duncan and Harold; and his parents, Wilfred MacDonald and Daphne MacDonald.
He is survived by: his close friend Cathy MacArthur; his children, Greer Thornbury (Larry) of Kirkfield, Dawn Smits (David) of Summerstown Station and Krista Mrzena (Dan) of Nepean; his grandchildren, Shawn, Bonnie, Colleen (Megan Lamont), Garret, Evan, Merina and Brandon; his great grandchild Ainsley; and his siblings, Audrey McCardle, Shirley Abrams, Mickey, Lenore Wilkinson, Iris Gervais (Reg), Alex (Betty) and Lynne MacDonald. He is also survived by his many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
