Zachary Jacobi Obituary

It is with heartbreak, we announce the sudden passing of Zachary as the result of a sporting accident on August 7, 2019 in his 28th year.

Beloved son of Steve and Pam Jacobi, brother of Isaac and partner of Tessa Alexanian. Zachary will be sadly missed by his Grandma Marie Burns, aunts, uncles and cousins, lifelong friends David Lutes and Corey Blendeman and many other family and friends. Zachary was part of the Alert Labs family in Kitchener, ON.

Zachary was better than most of us. He would never have said that, but he was staunchly ethical, scrupulously compassionate, and possessed of unbelievable personal integrity.

If you asked Zach's friends what they would do with a million-dollar windfall, they’d give the same answer: "I’d ask Zach what's right."

Zachary wrote over a million words, about everything from Star Wars to Hannah Arendt. His memory was preternatural, which he used for making obscure historical references, winning pedantic arguments, and never forgetting what you asked him to do for you.

Zachary never missed a Christmas or a birthday with his family. When all four Jacobis got together, it didn’t matter whether we were cadging Zachary into a game of euchre, or planning out his next bike ride, or all just talking around the table. Something about it always felt right.

Zachary had the largest personal library of anyone we know. We called him the "gateway librarian". He delighted in showing how well he knew the people he cared about by loaning them books that they couldn't put down. He loved summer thunderstorms, biking the Hydrocut, Dungeons and Dragons, and understanding the world. We love him.

The family will receive friends at the “THORPE BROTHERS’ FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL”, 96 West St. on Thursday, August 15, 2019 from 6-9pm. A Memorial Service will be held in the chapel on Friday, August 16, 2019 at 12:30pm. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Against Malaria Foundation, and, in memory of Zachary, the family asks that everyone go to http://www.beadonor.ca and register as an organ donor.

Kyle Stremble wrote a sympathy message

“I was just reminded of this today. If it was him, me and my dad met him on that day when we were also riding. He had one of those bikes with a green Cannondale Lefty fork if i recall correctly. From what i remember he was a great guy, we chatted for a bit, unfortunately i think we were one of the last people to talk to him. I was shocked to hear about his passing and even if we met someone else, I'm very sorry for your loss.”
