He was predeceased by: his parents, Clarence Thiel and Catherine Thiel; his brothers, Grant and Daniel; and his sisters-in-law, Jessie, Joan, Lorraine and Sharon.
He is survived by: his wife Catherine; his children, Mary Kate Lange (Gerald), Cindy Thiel and Paul Thiel (Nancy Plato); his grandchildren, Eric Lange (Denise), Kathryn Garland (Andrew), Reid, Madelaine and Wilson Thiel; his great grandchildren, Cian, Lila, Luca, Gabe, Leo and Iris; and his siblings, Albert, Douglas, Carl (Beverley), Gordon, Bruce and Rosemary Paul (Al).
