He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Burton Ewing and Vera Ewing (McGregor); his wife Kathryn Ewing (Martin); his children, Rod Ewing (Anne) and Shannon Crichton; his grandchildren, Ezdon, Tess, Will and Kate; his sister Colleen Dean (Dale); and his siblings-in-law, Joanne White (Allan), Donald Martin (Bonnie), Nancy Wallace (Jerry), Connie Martin and David Martin. He was also cherished by many nieces and nephews.

Dean was a proud past chair of the Wallaceburg Hospital Board, earning the Queen's Golden Jubilee Medal for his significant contributions to his community, and his fellow Canadians.
