He was predeceased by: his daughter Karen (Eric); and his parents, Jacob and Maria. He is survived by: his spouse Hilde; his children, Ken (Audrey) and Kathy; his grandchildren, Shannon (Matt), Candace (Phil), Nathan (Jamie), Cody (Michelle), Erin (Billy), Jess (Suzie), Rachel (Aaron), Tiffany and Madison; his great grandchildren, Toby, Nova and Ollie; and his siblings-in-law, Vic and Holly Dirksen.
