He was predeceased by: his brothers, David McConnell and Gary McConnell; and his parents, Johnny Coates and Rita Coates. He is survived by: his son Sean Slusarchuk (Barbara); his son-in-law Timothy Willson; his close friend Colleen Demarest; his sisters, Lana, Pam, Spring and Cindy; and also, Darian, Nathaniel, Toby, Alex and Nick.
