He was predeceased by: his parent Grace McDermott (Stenhouse); his spouse Joyce Carr-Braint; and his sister Elizabeth Bridge (Douglas). He is survived by: his parent James Francis McDermott; his children, Jeffrey McDermott, Jane Rafter (Robert), Meribeth LaBreton, Thomas Turner and James Turner; his brothers, William McDermott (Audrey), Tony McDermott (Pam) and Jerry McDermott; and his stepchildren, Patricia Palmateer (Larry), Paul Rashotte (Karen), Debbie Gaylord (Jim), Stephen Rashotte (Jill), Philip Rashotte (Beth), John Rashotte (Amy), David Rashotte (Michelyn) and Lori Broek (Allan). He is also survived by his many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
