She was predeceased by: her parent Sam Peters; and her siblings, Stan, Kathleen, Gwen, Wilf and Doug.

She is survived by: her parent Amelia Peters; her spouse Gordon Hughes; her children, Lynne Hughes Marsh (David), Gillian Milligan (Glen) and Colin Hughes (Denise); her grandchildren, Connor Marsh, Kyle Marsh (Miscia Zhang), Ryan Milligan (Alyssa Colasante), Meghan Milligan, Brittany Hughes, Hayley Lockwood (Jeff) and Megan Pearson; and her great grandchildren, Harlow and Nash.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Doctors Without Borders (MSF International), a charity dear to Joan's heart.
