He was predeceased by: his wife Lidia Mendes; and his mother Maria Conceicao. He is survived by: his children-in-law, Ann Mendes and Jose Martins; his great grandchildren, Gabriel, Jake and Olivia; his sister-in-law Susy Figueiras; and his nieces, Nancy (Ken) and Simone (Larry).
