She was predeceased by: her sister Anne. She is survived by: her husband John Cornelius McGowan; her children, Michael, Kevin, Brian (Agnes), Tim (MaryAnna) and Patsy (Mario); her siblings, Teen, Mart and Jack; and her grandchildren, Mitchell, Ellen, Joshua and Emma.

In memory of Joan, and in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
