James Cooney Obituary

We are sad to announce that on May 3, 2021 we had to say goodbye to James Cooney (Toronto, Ontario). You can send your sympathy in the guestbook provided and share it with the family.

He was predeceased by: his parents, Patrick Cooney and Bridget Cooney; and his siblings, Michael, Patrick, Edward, Denis and Margaret.

He is survived by: his wife Gabriele; his children, Denise (Bill) and Colin (Kelly); and his cousin Ireland. He is also survived by nieces, nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family would be grateful if those who knew Jim shared their memories and stories of him. Any donations in Jim's memory can be made to the Toronto Public Library Foundation, The Daily Bread Food Bank, or a charity of your choice.

“I am sorry to learn of Jim’s passing. I’m glad I knew him in the early days of Toronto Irish Players. He was a wonderful example of an Irish gentleman. Jim once discovered 10c copies of Patrick Kavanagh’s poem The Great Hunger in a discount bin. He paid $10 and distributed 100 copies to his friends and I still have my copy.”
